About the job COURT RECORDER


Under the supervision of a District or Circuit Court Judge, persons in this classification serve as confidential secretary, administrative aide, and official court recorder.Responsibilities include coordinating and managing the daily operations of a judicial office, typing and processing correspondence, judicial opinions and other court documents, as well as utilizing and maintaining electronic recording equipment to record and transcribe all court proceedings.

Required Minimum Entrance Qualifications

1. Be a high school graduate or have successfully completed the General Education Development (GED) test;
2. Two (2) years of college, business or technical school training in office administration, paralegal, legal secretarial or related subject is preferred;
3. Have a minimum of three (3) years full-time progressively responsible clerical experience in a court system or legal office setting;
4. As a condition of continued employment, must be certified as an Electronic Court Recorder by the Michigan Supreme Court within six (6) months of employment.

Physical Conditions / Work Location

Physical Activities
An employee in this class performs generally sedentary work. Mobility to work in an office and court setting; occasionally lifting and carrying up to thirty-five (35) pounds; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; and hearing and speech to communicate in person or over the telephone.


ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
An employee in this class generally works within the offices of the District or Circuit Court. Vets Hired
