Job Description and Duties

Under the general direction of the Staff Services Manager II in Selection Services Unit, the Staff Services Manager I will assist in the planning and organizing the Department of State Hospitals (DSH) Selection Services Program. The incumbent will directly supervise five (5) analytical staff and may oversee the work of support staff (Office Technician, Retired Annuitant, etc.) The incumbent is responsible for supervising and providing direction to analysts completing job analysis, exam development and administration, bulletin creation and other Selection Services related duties. Participate and complete special projects as assigned by upper management and the Chief of Human Resources.

Working Conditions

• This position reports to the Allenby Building in Sacramento. A hybrid Telework schedule, consistent with the State of California's in-office requirement, may be considered with prior approval from management. The incumbent may also be required to travel throughout California as needed, with prior notice.
• The State’s Commute Programs provide bicycle, mass transit and vanpool incentives to eligible state employees. The State’s mass transit incentive pays 100% of the transit pass up to the IRS maximum of $325 per month in 2025.
• DSH-Sacramento is located at an 11 floor high rise building.

In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:

• Supervisor and/or management experience
• Developing policies and procedures
• Providing consultation
• Completed Selection Analyst Cohort training or similar education/training
• Conducting job analysis, job study or similar experience
• Developing various testing instruments or similar experience
• Utilizing Human Resources Information System

Statement of Qualifications (SOQ)

The Statement of Qualifications (SOQ) must be typed in Arial 12 pt. font, contain 1 inch margins and contain no more than 2 pages. To be considered for an interview your SOQ must address each of the following questions:

1. Please indicate your experience and knowledge in the area of Selection Services.
2. Please provide your concept of Exceptional Customer Service. Identify and define "customer."
3. Please describe your leadership style and how you would utilize that to integrate yourself into the team.
